| Volunteering
Lancashire is a non-profit organisation
working to enhance and promote volunteering throughout the county.
Its membership is drawn from Volunteering Infrastructure
agencies. It provides a comprehensive
signposting for those interested in volunteering. It also provides
support for volunteer-involving organisations through resource materials,
information, training and events.
The group
formed in 2005 initially to provide a county-level response to new
voluntary, community and faith sector initiatives such as ChangeUp.
The strong and diverse tradition of voluntary work in Lancashire
is reflected in the organisation’s membership of Volunteer
Centres and other agencies who seek to reflect the widest representation
of volunteering issues.
As
part of the Lancashire Community Voluntary & Faith Sector Consortium,
the Volunteering Lancashire Sub-Group were able to benefit from
funding via ChangeUp to establish itself in 2006 as a central focus
for volunteering issues throughout Lancashire. The initial Terms
of Reference can be found here.
From its
official launch in June 2006, the group aims to become a dynamic
forum within the Lancashire voluntary sector, with an independent
constitution and wider membership. The objects of the constitution
are as follows:
"The objects of the
Constitution are to promote the charitable work of principal providers
of volunteering support and development services within Lancashire
for the benefit of the community by the promotion of voluntary service
in the advancement of education, the protection of health, the relief
of poverty, distress and sickness and the support of any other charitable
purpose."
